Researchers from IIT Mandi and inStem Bengaluru have discovered the molecular reasons behind the ability of Aedes Aegypti mosquito eggs to survive without water for long periods. The study found that the eggs enter an altered metabolic state, increasing the production of polyamines, which help them withstand water loss. The eggs also use high-calorie lipids as an energy source after rehydration. Understanding these survival mechanisms could lead to innovative mosquito control strategies and potentially help in finding solutions for agricultural challenges.
